The wildly popular reality show Top Chef named Kevin Sbraga as the Season 7 winner, set in Washington, D.C. Sbraga, 31, who hails from Willingboro, N.J., is the first African-American winner of the show, dedicated to finding the best of the best in culinary skill. Sbraga, who has served as a chef throughout many restaurants in the region, will use the $125,000 prize money to open a new restaurant in Philadelphia. Sbraga credits his parents, who owned a bakery, and his wife, a pastry chef, for inspiring his love of cooking. Upon winning, Sbraga stated, “New Jersey is taking the title home. It’s like a dream come true. This is a life changer. My career has been good, but this can make it great — incredible. It’s absolutely huge that I’m the first African-American Top Chef. My dad, my sister, my friends, the guys at the barbershop, are going to eat it up. They’re going to love it. I’m the Top Chef.”
