Congressman Steve Cohen Wins the 9th District Democratic Primary

Congressman receives 79 percent of the vote.


Congressman Steve Cohen won the 9th District Democratic Primary by a landslide. He definitively beat former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton, who tried to make race an issue in the congressional race. Cohen faced a challenge that not only centered around race but also featured what some called anti-Semitic attacks against him. You may recall that Herenton told voters to "Come off the Cohen plantation and get on the Herenton freedom train." This outcome proves what we've been saying all along: Racists come in all colors, and when you act like a clown, the joke is on you.
