Riots Break Out: 'My Son Was Murdered' -- Oscar Grant's Mother

Riots broke out last night in Oakland as protesters were angered by an involuntary manslaughter conviction instead of murder.


Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant, has spoken out against the verdict in the trial of ex-BART officer Johannes Mehserle, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for Grant's murder. Mehserle claims he accidentally pulled his gun instead of his taser, shooting Grant. She stated, "My son was murdered. He was murdered. He was murdered. He was murdered," reportedly in a calm yet forceful voice. She also said ex-BART cop Johannes Mehserle's conviction of involuntary manslaughter felt like being "slapped in the face by a system that has denied us true justice." Riots broke out in response to the verdict. Does this qualify as "just us" instead of justice?
