Going to Extremes: Woman Shoots Herself for Medical Care

Woman shoots herself to get the medical help that she needed but could not afford.

You've heard the phrases, "cutting off your nose to spite your face," or "shooting yourself in the foot." Well, a Michigan woman took it further by shooting herself in her shoulder in order to get the help that she needed but could not afford. Uninsured and broke, Kathy Myers shot herself in the shoulder, where she had a pre-existing injury,  so that she could get treatment in the hospital emergency room. It is illegal for hospitals to turn away emergency room patients because they lack insurance, so Myers took advantage of this law. How sad is it that Myers had to resort to such extreme measures in order to get the help that she needed? Thank goodness for this universal law since universal health care may not stick.
