Jamie Foxx Writing Laverne and Shirley Movie

Were there even any black people on the show?

Now, he does have some writing credits to his name, but talk about odd news. How did the man who starred on In Living Color, one of the blackest shows on television, end up writing a big-screen version for one of the whitest? Maybe Foxx has some ideas on how to bring a little diversity into the mix, because there were black people in Milwaukee during the 1950s, although you'd never know it from looking at Laverne and Shirley reruns. Could be black folks were a bit preoccupied with all that civil rights stuff.

Garry Marshall has confirmed he'll be directing a big-screen version of Laverne & Shirley. But what seems at first like just another ill-advised Hollywood remake gets, well, surprising with Marshall’s reveal that the script is being written by none other than Jamie Foxx, one of the 764 big names in Marshall’s recent Valentine’s Day. Laverne and Shirley would be played by Foxx’s Valentine’s co-stars and apparent real-life BFFs Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel. "It’s a whole different modern day take on how they came up on the streets during difficult times," Marshall said. "Laverne would be this very tough girl with a big ‘L’ tattooed on her arm. Garner would play Laverne and Biel would play Shirley.”
