Senator Burris After All

In an about face so complete that it looks like a transplant, Senate Democratic leaders said that Roland Burris will be seated as a US  senator this week, probably on thursday. Burris was appointed to the seat by indicted, and now impeached, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to fill out the term of President-elect Barack Obama.

Reversing course, Senate Democrats grudgingly accepted embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's hand-selected Senate appointee, Roland Burris, as they sought to break an impasse over President-elect Barack Obama's former seat.

The new Illinois senator is expected to be sworn into office later this week. With his typical 'confidence' Burris said yesterday: "I really never doubted that I would be seated."
