KHOU reports that Braziel died just before 1 a.m. Saturday on Houston’s south side. Police say two officers were on routine patrol, driving up Cullen Boulevard, when they saw a man in the middle of the street armed with a revolver.
Police allegedly gave multiple commands for the man to drop the weapon, as did a witness standing next to him. According to police, the man pointed the gun toward the air and then at the officers.
The officers both discharged their weapons and struck the man. Authorities say he died at the scene.
Click 2 Houston says that the man’s wife identified him as Alva Braziel and that he was out early in the morning because “someone stole his horse.”
One officer has 13 years of service with the Houston Police Department, and the other has 10 years of service. Each fired multiple shots.
Police have not released video from the officers, who were wearing body cameras.
