Rep. Allen West Compares Dems to Nazis
If the word "controversial" had a picture under it in the dictionary, Tea Party congressman Allen West would be considered a front-runner for that slot.
The Florida Republican incited another firestorm Thursday when he compared the Democratic Party to the Nazis. "If Joseph Goebbels was around, he'd be very proud of the Democrat Party because they have an incredible propaganda machine," West said on Capitol Hill Thursday, according to Politico. "I think that you have -- and let's be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit in this, in enabling them to get that type of message out.
"Don't start taking my words and twisting it around. I'm talking about propaganda. And I think that's a very important thing," West continued.
The comment caught the ire of Rep. Democrat Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.). "This is exactly the type of rhetoric that turns people off to Washington and getting involved in politics," said Ackerman, who is Jewish. "I call on Republicans and Democrats alike to join me in demanding an apology."
West, who is no stranger to controversy, earlier this year he was involved in an email tit-for-tat with Florida Democrat Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. In the email, West said Wasserman-Schultz was not a "lady" and was “the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the U.S. House of Representatives" after she criticized him on the House floor.
So all of this raises the question: When will we hear another crazy comment from him?
